The interaction between disaster recovery and business continuity professionals and their communications counterparts impacts the effectiveness of even the best DR and BC programs and - just as importantly - how key stakeholders perceive those programs’ effectiveness. Unfortunately, many organizations - even ones with sophisticated BC and DR plans - fail to extend their planning and preparation to this vital function. Jon Austin, a 25-year communications professional who’s worked on hundreds of crisis and issue management situations, will offer insights into how BC/DR professionals can explore the topic of crisis and issue management communications with their internal counterparts, the elements necessary for creating effective communications plans as well as tips for evaluating a plan’s completeness.

Networking Event after Member Meeting – 3PM to 4PM

Please feel free to stay after the member meeting for a facilitated conversation about business impacts and lessons learned from Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, and Mexico earthquakes.  It’ll be a casual table conversation led by some of the BCPA board members.  We are hoping we can get a few participants to join us and network, learn and share!  Takeaways:  Lessons learned from other companies that you could consider applying at your company.
